SPECIAL CONTRIBUTIONS AWARD

The recipient of the Special Contributions Award is someone who has made a significant contribution to the counseling profession and has demonstrated a genuine desire to help people. This person does not have to be a member of SDCA to be nominated.

2023 Winner: Julie Williams, pictured with nominator Kim Goebel

Julie is our school district's speech therapist and assistant special education director. She advocates tirelessly for students through both positions. She is often in charge of plans for our most difficult and high needs students and makes sure that they are getting all of the services they need. Julie is the person in a meeting who comes up with the unique idea to help a student. She is the person who always remembers to see the positive in a student and remind everybody of that when it is challenging to see the positive. Her creativity and problem solving are an invaluable asset to myself as a school counselor, school counseling, and the counseling profession.

Julie is very involved in an organization called Gettysburg in Action (GIA). GIA'S mission is to provide activities and sometimes financial assistance to the youth and families of our community. Her creativity, organization and the giving of her time have been invaluable to the success of this organization. Julie is the first to recognize a need in the community or a family. She also promotes the involvement of youth by involving the older youth in "Junior GIA", teaching them community service early in their lives.- Kim Goebel
